Photos of Tracy Bonham at the Middle East Upstairs

It seemed better late than never to finally make it to a Tracy Bonham concert. There I was — finally, at the Middle East Upstairs — sixteen years after I had moved to Boston from Nebraska. Bonham has since relocated to Brooklyn where she’s called home for several years.
I could just type OMG over and over again and that would sum up the show better than any words I might have. I’ve been a fan of her music for years. It was great to see her start things off with “Something Beautiful.” She conveyed genuine happiness and contentment with life and where she’s at. Something that didn’t seem to be the case with her first major label release The Burdens of Being Upright on Island Records back in 1996. That album included her sassy angst hit “Mother Mother.”
This time around she’s not going through a label and is rocking it independent style. The last time she worked with a label was Rounder Records in 2005 for blink the brightest.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Bonham’s new album Masts of Manhatta and then buy it from her online store. It’s always better to buy from the artist as directly as possible but you can also get the album on iTunes and Amazon.
