Jake Armerding is a hometown boy from Ipswich, Massachusetts who plays a sort of alt-folk that has shades of Ryan Adams’ low key vibe and acoustic heavy tunes, but remains original with his bittersweet lyricism. His act is very soothing and reminiscent of your favorite sweater and cup of steaming hot chocolate on a cold day, which is perfect if you’re looking for a way to escape the bitter wind outside.

It is truly a treat when Armerding turns his set into a haven for the reluctant country lover, complete with a bass and violin solo that sounds raw and organic without being contrived. For Armerding, it’s as if playing music and singing twangy folk songs comes as sweetly and naturally as Mom’s lemonade on the Georgia porch you never had.

Video: The Fleece

Here’s a video of Jake Armerding at The Somerville Theater March 2008 singing “The Fleece.” It’s a catchy melody that will, no doubt, be stuck in your head for days, or at least serve as a repetitive lullaby as you drift off to dreamland.
