Get out this week to see Banditas, John Powhida, Harvard Square MayFair and more
April 26, 2010
Every day in Boston there are approximately 2,303 music events happening. Am I exaggerating? Maybe a little — but not much! If I had a few clones, I’d definitely want to be at more than just one show.
Here are the concerts happening this week that you should check out, too. Do you know about a show that’s coming up that we should know about? Contact us by email or send @ExploitBoston a direct message or tweet on Twitter.
Below this week’s concert recommendations watch videos of the band’s and see for yourself why you should check them out.

Get out picks for the weekend of October 3rd, 4th and 5th
October 2, 2008

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend here are my concert picks for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: October 3-4-5.
Friday, October 3: Avi & Celia CD Release Party
Lizard Lounge, Cambridge
Doors: 8:30pm, First band: 9pm, Ages: 21+, Cost: $8 advance, $10 at the door (buy tix online)
Soul-folk duet Avi & Celia make the Lizard Lounge home as the Boston installment of their CD Release Party for “Let It Rise.” I’ve seen them sit in with Session Americana for a couple songs and look forward to finally seeing a full show dedicated to their new music. They’re joined by guests Miss Tess and The David Wax Museum.
Here’s what they have to say about the new album:
After receiving a rousing response from their debut CD, Off the Floor, Avi & Celia spent much of March 2008 recording their forthcoming album “Let it Rise.” The new record combines hopeful idealism with personal commentary on social and political agendas. The song structures and deep blues inflections intuitively weave through the lyrical content. Let it Rise is a journey through darkness and awakening, stories that we hear passing through dusty bus stations, sincere renditions of human emotion.
Saturday, October 4: The Vital Might CD Release Party
Middle East Upstairs, Central Square, Cambridge
Doors: 9pm, Ages: 18+, Cost: $9 in advance, $10 at the door (buy tix online)
I don’t know how they are going to squeeze everyone into the cozy spot that is the Middle East Upstairs so you might want to grab tickets ASAP for this show. The Vital Might are celebrating the release of their new album “Red Planet.” To make it extra awesome, they are joined by Cassavettes, a SoozFavorite, plus Build a Machine, and A Hero Next Door.
Sunday, October 5: Will Dailey & The Rivals
Great Scott, Allston (Green Line on the “B” train)
Doors: 9pm, First band: 10pm, Ages: 18+, Cost: $12 (buy online)
Will Dailey & The Rivals sent out a note to their fans on Facebook with an alert saying “music is the best cure for a crisis.” Band tshirts will be available at “crisis prices” of $10 instead of $25. After getting signed to CBS Records and doing a crazy extensive tour around the U.S. over the summer, the band got some rest and has played a few shows here and there. Seeing them back home in Boston at Great Scott in Allston is a treat. It’s a reminder that we’re lucky to have such a great music scene in Boston, where people like Will Dailey call home. Guests at the show on Sunday night are Dylan in the Movies and Nate Campany.
