Boston Rocks Halloween 2009 at TT The Bear’s and Church
November 5, 2009
It’s an annual tradition for Boston bands to perform Halloween shows covering bands they love or just feel inspired to cover for the night. This year I got some great performances recorded on video: John Powhida and Chris Cote as Robert Palmer, Preacher Roe as The Replacements, The Luxury as Duran Duran and The Lights Out as Phil Collins. You can watch all eight videos in the playlist below or watch each individual Boston Rocks Halloween video on YouTube.

Exploit Boston! TV Episode #11: Bleu CD Release Party at TT The Bear’s Place
July 26, 2009
If you missed it, check out what I wrote about Bleu’s new album A Watched Pot that came out on July 14th. As part of a tour celebrating the release of the eleven gems of pop awesomeness, Bleu stopped in Boston to celebrate with his Boston fans who’ve been supporting him for many years before and after he relocated to Los Angeles in 2006.
Surrounded by fans and friends — a happy homecoming
Blue performed to a sold-out crowd and it was no surprise he was having a good time playing songs from an album that almost never saw a proper release thanks to a major label that held the songs hostage for many years after Bleu was dropped from Aware/Columbia Records.
Also joining Bleu that night were Peter Moore (singer from Count Zero), Air Traffic Controller (Bleu produced their upcoming CD) and Hooray for Earth.

Videos of Mandy Moore, Lori McKenna and Mike Viola at the Lizard Lounge
October 5, 2008
Boston Pop Underground organized an excellent Fall Residency for Mike Viola at the Lizard Lounge. The third night was especially fun with Mike’s old band the Candy Butchers reuniting for an evening plus special guests Lori McKenna and pop star and actress Mandy Moore. That was a lot of awesomeness to squeeze into a club that fits 105 people. Mike is moving to Los Angeles and is working with Mandy on her next album. But before that all happens, his cohorts Ducky Carlisle and Bleu are joining him to play a few shows in Japan. Check out the trio’s new band, The Major Labels.
